Seeking: Associate Rector

Reports to: Rector 

COTC is looking for a catalytic, relational, flexible and energetic priest to serve as an associate rector in our young and growing parish. We are nearly three years old and have approximately 85 households in our community, with a large number of families with young children. 

Our vision is to announce, demonstrate, and embody the good news of God’s kingdom as community in and for Northeast Austin. We desire to press in to the life of the triune God and to reach out for the good of the world in the name of Jesus. Our corporate life is center around the values of celebration, transformation, consolation, and participation. 

As our parish is still developing this role would require flexibility and comfort in a changing and collaborative environment. This person would potentially have areas of responsibility in the arenas of spiritual formation and community, along with some operations and logistical support, as well as partnering with the rector in pastoral care, preaching, and leading liturgically. The ability to cheerful serve, to work collaboratively, and to generate and execute upon new ideas are a must.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist the Rector in the pastoral leadership of the parish, pastoral care of the parish, the education and equipping of members for life and ministry, and the mobilization of the church in mission. This list below represents the main categories of responsibility with examples that are representative of the role.  The candidate’s experience, gifts and passion will also contribute to the shape of the role.

  • Pastoral Leadership

    • Initiate and provide oversight to lay-lead ministry teams.

    • Assist with leading Sunday worship and occasional preaching.

    • Disciple and develop new leaders in the parish.

  • Pastoral Care

    • Develop lay-led pastoral care initiatives, as well as provide personal pastoral counsel.  Experience/familiarity with healing prayer is also desirable.

    • Sick and homebound visits.

    • Assist, as needed, with weddings, funerals and baptisms.

  • Education and Equipping

    • Exercise oversight of Neighborhood Group ministry.

    • Lead and/or assist with The Alpha Course or similar courses, as offered.

    • Teach and train, in classroom or other formats, to “equip the saints” for a fruitful life and ministry. Develop systems for the same.

  • Other

    • Plan occasional community building and outreach events.

    • Additional/alternate roles will be considered, subject to candidate’s gifting, calling and passions.

    • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Rector.

Requirements

  • The candidate will have a seminary degree and will already be or will be willing to pursue ordination in the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA) within the Churches for the Sake of Others (C4SO) diocese. 

  • The candidate will be a strong addition to COTC’s leadership team who can contribute creative ideas and wisdom, and contribute constructively to the overall vision, direction and tone of the church.

  • The candidate will be effective at building teams, leading teams and serving as part of a team. They will be at home in a collaborative and changing environment as our parish continues to grow and develop. The candidate will be able to work and adapt to cross-cultural situations and environments, exercising servant leadership and humility.  

  • The candidate will maintain a personal and professional lifestyle of high Christian character.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time salaried position, with benefits.
