PARISH ADMINISTRATOR

This role description is intended to provide a foundation for the role of Parish Administrator at Church of the Cross Austin (COTC). COTC is a young church in Northeast Austin, committed to announcing, embodying, and demonstrating the reality of the Gospel through our worship, community, and service, to the glory of God. We are a growing church, in the midst of purchasing a property, and seek to develop and enhance our systems and structures in this season.

We are looking for a part-time, energetic and experienced administrator to manage communication, provide support for pastoral staff and ministry volunteers, manage the church office, and provide event support and planning.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Is a disciple of Jesus who loves and obeys God (Matthew 22:37-38; Luke 9:23), loves the church and longs for more people to know Christ.

  • Is eager to serve and has a track record of effective behind-the-scenes implementation.

  • Is highly self-motivated, works well independently, and can juggle multiple tasks at once.

  • Enjoys problem solving, optimizing systems, organization, and long-range planning.

  • Cares about the written and spoken word, writes and edits well, is attentive to detail.

  • Takes prayer seriously and has a heart for worship, including liturgical Anglican worship.

  • Is affable, warm, hospitable, flexible, and loyal.

  • Experience with design (both online and print) is a significant asset for this position

  • Is, or is willing to become, an active participant in the life of COTC, including Sunday morning worship

Role Description

The Parish Administrator will, alongside and under the direction of the Executive Pastor, support the life COTC in the areas of administration and operations - including overseeing the management of COTC’s office, volunteer coordination efforts, communications, and event planning. On a weekly basis, this part-time role will require approximately 20 hours a week, with some ebb and flow through the year. This person will report directly to the Executive Pastor at COTC.

Role Responsibilities

The Parish Administrator will primarily serve in the following areas:

Direct parish communications
Maintain, enhance, and streamline COTC’s communication efforts ensuring that information is disseminated in a timely, creative, and compelling manner consistent with our vision and values (this includes the e-news, weekly bulletin, social media, the parish’s website, and printed media, as well as the parish calendar). Maintain the church database with regard to newcomers, member contact information, and giving.

Manage church office operations
Coordinate use and maintenance of office supplies and equipment; respond to and distribute mail, email, and voice mail; assist church ministries in the use of office materials and equipment in preparing for events. Ensure supplies and paper goods are kept in stock at our worship space, and that storage areas are clean and ordered.

Support of pastoral staff
Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and annual staff retreat; proactively problem-solve; coordinate special projects. Give daily consideration on how to support pastoral staff with administrative responsibilities, including helping with tasks, scheduling, and emails.

Event support and coordination
Coordinate and oversee all logistics and materials related to weekly worship services, discipleship events and congregational meetings; including planning and producing worship guides, supporting volunteer team leads responsible for Sunday morning worship; facilitating the recruitment, training, and support of volunteers. Serve as coordinator for COTC retreats and special services.

Salary, Vacation, and Holidays

• Salary will be determined by the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

• The Parish Administrator will answer to the Executive Pastor.

•There will be an annual job performance evaluation, along with annual compensation adjustments based on the recommendation of the rector to the Parish Council.

• 10 days of paid vacation in the first year of employment
