Ministry

We desire Church of the Cross to be a place where our youth…

Encounter Jesus

Become more like him, and

Deepen their spiritual friendships.

In faith, hope, and love, we cultivate several spaces for God to meet youth and for them to take up the Faith:

Gospel Reading Group

Twice a month, we invite youth to follow the cross out of the sanctuary and join youth leaders as they break into groups to study the gospel passage together. We hope our youth grow in familiarity with and interest in Scripture, as well as relationships with one another.

Grades: 6th-12th

When: 11AM service, 2x/month, during sermon

Youth Group

Middle and High schoolers come together to grow their life in Christ: eating, learning, praying, and playing. It’s a space where we ask questions, devour Domino’s pizza, and hang out!

Grades: 6th-12th When: 2x/month, Sundays @ 12:30PM

Catechism Cohort

Lay Catechist Blake Mathews and Dcn. Krista Vossler lead a two-year catechism cohort for students in 7th grade and above. During these two years, we pray students will gain a deepened understanding of the Faith through more intensive and intentional study and practice. Through this cohort and its use of the Anglican Catechism, we hope they will have gained the meaningful knowledge and understanding needed when they become eligible for confirmation.

A new class is beginning this fall (2026), and registration closed 8/16. The next cohort begins Fall 2028.

Grades: 7th-12th When: 11AM, 2x/month, rejoin service @ communion

High School Boys & High School Girls Groups

These relationally-rich groups aim to disciple older students more deeply into the skills and heart of engaging God in Scripture, prayer, and spiritual friendship.

Grades: 9th-12th When: 2x/month, 6:30PM-8PM; Boys (Wed), Girls (Tues)

C4SO Austin-Area Winter Youth Retreat

Joining together with churches in our diocese, youth and volunteers head out to Camp Buckner annually to receive teaching, worship, and pray together. Not to mention, have a bit of fun and raid the Snack Shack!

Grade: 6th-12th       When: Feb. 5-7, 2027
